A two-day house-hunting visit needs a shortlist before it needs a driving route. Start with the budget and requirements, confirm suitable homes are available, and leave room to revisit one that warrants closer attention.
Building the showing schedule
Begin with homes that meet the budget and practical requirements, and confirm they can be shown during the trip. The cited snapshot contains 236 homes for sale across 146 ranked neighborhoods, with 157 in 36 neighborhoods, but the itinerary needs current availability.
West Lafayette, on its own terms
The West Lafayette map ranks 51 neighborhoods and carries 812 closed sales. In the same snapshot there were 109 homes for sale, and they were not spread evenly: 39 of the 51 neighborhoods had at least one, 19 of them had three or more, and those 19 held 81 of the 109. Twelve neighborhoods had exactly one home for sale.
Each of those listings still needs to be assessed against the buyer's requirements and the route.
Asking prices on those 109 ran from $224,000 to $1,350,000, with a median of $419,000. By band: 16 under $300,000, 32 from $300,000 to $400,000, 27 from $400,000 to $500,000, 27 from $500,000 to $700,000, and 7 at $700,000 and above.
Lafayette, on its own terms
The Lafayette map ranks 95 neighborhoods and carries 1,359 closed sales. The snapshot held 127 homes for sale across 58 of those 95 neighborhoods. Seventeen neighborhoods had three or more, and those 17 held 76 of the 127. Thirty one neighborhoods had exactly one.
Asking prices ran from $95,000 to $1,300,000, with a median of $330,000. By band: 53 under $300,000, 32 from $300,000 to $400,000, 24 from $400,000 to $500,000, 14 from $500,000 to $700,000, and 4 at $700,000 and above.
Using the town reports
The two town sections describe their own listings and reporting windows. Use them to locate possible homes within the budget, then assess the property and location against the household's requirements.
How the two days get built
Group appointments by location where practical, while keeping a suitable single listing on the itinerary when it warrants the visit. Confirm access before assigning a day to a particular group of homes.
Leave time to compare options within the agreed budget and to return to a home that needs a second look. Test the commute at the hour it would actually be made rather than rely on an eleven-in-the-morning drive.
If new construction is what you are after
The maps separate new construction from resale, and in the snapshot it clustered. In West Lafayette, the neighborhoods that had both a meaningful new construction count and homes for sale were Arbor Chase (13 of its 30 sales new, 10 homes for sale), Three Meadows (28 of 39 new, 2 for sale), Belle Terra (25 of 31 new, 4 for sale), Stonehenge (23 of 48 new, 3 for sale), Auburn Meadows (17 of 30 new, 2 for sale) and Stonehenge Villas (18 of 19 new, 3 for sale).
In Lafayette: Chesapeake Pointe (20 of 20 new, 3 for sale), Barrington Lakes (21 of 36 new, 6 for sale), Baker Farms (18 of 23 new, 5 for sale), Barrington Woods (13 of 16 new, 2 for sale) and Concord Ridge (10 of 27 new, 3 for sale).
Decide whether to include new construction before arranging appointments. Model-home access, completion dates and the availability of specific homes need to be confirmed along with the resale showings.
What the snapshot does not tell you
The for-sale counts are a snapshot and they move every week, so the routing gets rebuilt the week of the trip, not the month before. The sold history behind each neighborhood keeps only the ten most recent sales, so it cannot say anything about which month is a good month to buy. And the two maps were built on slightly different closing windows, so they are read one at a time rather than added together for anything finer than the counts above.
Both maps are public: the West Lafayette neighborhood map and the Lafayette neighborhood map, with the town pages at West Lafayette and Lafayette. If the move is a job relocation, how I run a relocation covers the trip itself.

The West Lafayette map covers closings from 2024-10-07 to 2026-10-05 across 51 ranked neighborhoods; the Lafayette map covers 2024-10-07 to 2026-10-02 across 95 ranked neighborhoods. Homes-for-sale counts are the active listings in that same snapshot.
This note is general. Counts and asking prices change week to week. Nothing here is an appraisal or a valuation of a specific house.
